The Challenge
Tackling the day’s photographic challenge proved more complex than expected. The goal was clear: to best capture the extraordinary views of Sasso Piatto, Sasso Lungo, and the majestic Piz Boé, with the unmistakable backdrop of the Dolomites taking center stage.
However, the accumulated delay due to traffic undermined my plans: the golden light of dawn had already faded, replaced by lighting that was more stark and less favorable for ideal compositions. Even with the incredible output of my Sony A7III, I knew I had to strike the right balance between technique and inspiration to do honor to such impressive landscapes. So each shot became a challenge of adaptation, trying to capture, even in the now less intense light, the details and contrasts that make this land unique.
Feedback
Being immersed in these mighty mountains, surrounded by forests thousands of years old, is an experience that transcends words. I have often found myself reflecting on the tiny size of man in the face of these natural giants, and photography has become my tool to make this disproportion tangible.
Through the lens, I have tried to capture man’s humility in the face of the power of cold, clear flowing rivers, glacial lakes reflecting peaks, and the solidity of rocks and trees. In the face of these elements and forces, which we are accustomed to calling simply “nature,” I felt a strong sense of connection and at the same time alienation, as if our human vision were only a temporary parenthesis in the eternal forms that populate these lands.
“For nature, which makes us see the world as divinity does.”
